Beach Ball 2009
Last month we had the pleasure of hosting approximately 400 people at Camp Harbor View on a beautiful Saturday evening for our second annual Beach Ball gala. On June 13th, 2009 we were touched by the generosity of our guests who came to the camp to dine, dance, and to support the work Camp Harbor View is doing.
Guests enjoyed a special menu prepared by Chef Jody Adams and MAX Ultimate Foods while Nicole Henry and band provided the entertainment. Guests also enjoyed a special performance commissioned specifically for the 2009 Camp Harbor View Beach Ball with performers from the hit HBO series Russell Simmons presents Brave New Voices. The ensemble piece featured three young performers from the Urban Word team of Brave New Voices and group leader Taylor Mali, a teacher, poet and one of the most successful poetry slam strategists of all time.
Despite the challenging economic environment, the collective generosity of our Beach Ball supporters allowed us to raise $2,254,000 for Camp Harbor View and for the kids we have the privilege of serving. We are very grateful to all of those who contributed to the great success of this memorable event. Thanks to the multitude of supporters with big hearts and a love of Camp Harbor View, over 600 children are now having the summer they deserve – filled with friends, discovery, support, and as always and in keeping with Rule #1, having fun!
