Rubix Kube rocks the Boston Harbor with Camp Harbor View on Long Island
Harborthon 5K draws record 1,200 participants to annual fundraiser
Boston, MA – On Thursday, July 28, 2011 the Camp Harbor View Foundation and lead sponsor Deutsche Bank Partners for Charity hosted the third annual Harborthon 5K event at Camp Harbor View on Boston’s Long Island.
Ultimate 80’s Tribute Band, Rubix Kube, performed at Camp Harbor View during the 3rd Annual Harborthon 5K, a road race and BBQ fundraiser to support the Camp Harbor View Foundation
For 1,200 participants, the evening began with water transportation courtesy of Boston’s Best Cruises. City of Boston Mayor Thomas Menino, Camper Harbor View President Jack Connors, Jr. and DMSE Sports Founder David McGillivray kicked off the race, thanking the record number of participants for their support and dedication to Camp Harbor View, and 15 year old CHV Leader-in-Training Taylor Mathurin of Mattapan impressed the crowd with her skillful delivery of the National Anthem.
A new Harborthon record was set by first place male finisher, Christopher Kantos, age 25, with a time of 15:56, beating out last year’s record of 16:38. A new record was also set by the first place female finisher for the female division. Winner Kate Klim beat her own 2010 Harborthon record of 19:07 with a new time of 18:29.

Post-race, runners and spectators alike enjoyed a BBQ dinner from local Boston restaurant, b.good, and refreshments provided by Sam Adams.
Prize packages awarded to the first, second and third place overall male and female finishers included overnight hotel packages, Red Sox tickets, spa gift cards, restaurant dinners and more donated by Pyramid Advisors, Mohegan Sun, and Del Frisco’s Double Eagle Steakhouse.
The party continued when Ultimate 80’s Tribute Band, Rubix Kube, took the stage and rocked the night away against a back drop of the sparkling Boston sky line and Boston Harbor. Guests danced to popular 80’s hits and connected with Medford native and lead singer, Cherie Martorana.
Camp Harbor View is proud to partner with DMSE Sports, Inc and David McGillivray on the production of the Harborthon. DMSE Sports, Inc has produced or consulted on more than 800 events worldwide, including the BAA Boston Marathon.
Camp Harbor View opened in 2007 as a result of Mayor Menino’s concern for the welfare of Boston’s inner-city children. Mayor Menino reached out to Boston businessman and civic leader Jack Connors, Jr. and together they had the idea to create a camp for at-risk Boston children that would expose them to experiences and activities beyond their day- to-day lives. With the help of John Fish and a powerful Suffolk Construction team, the Camp was built in 109 days. Today, Camp Harbor View is operated with the Boys & Girls Clubs of Boston and in 2011 will provide 1000 of Boston’s inner-city youth with four weeks of summer day camp for just $5. Each camper experiences a wide variety of activities designed to build confidence, encourage creativity, and help develop the leadership skills they need during school and beyond.
