Our Partnerships
The City of Boston
From the beginning, Mayor Menino has been committed to the idea that Camp Harbor View should be for children who otherwise would not be engaged in programs. The CHV story is a unique one of what can happen when people from all parts of a city rally around a powerful idea. It is a story about the public sector and the private sector working together to create from scratch a beautiful summer camp in just nine months. Thanks to the tireless work of the staff at Boston Centers for Youth and Families, Boston Housing Authority, the Boston Public Health Commission, and the Boston Police Department, a targeted outreach campaign has reached the kids who need Camp Harbor View the most.
Boys & Girls Clubs of Boston
Camp Harbor View is made possible through our partnership with the Boys & Girls Clubs of Boston (BGCB). Camp co-founders Jack Connors, Jr. and Mayor Thomas Menino picked the BGCB to help operate the camp, which includes designing and implementing camp programs, selecting and managing the exceptional staff, and recruiting campers from local Boston neighborhoods. This decision was based on the outstanding reputation the BGCB has as children’s organization as well its experience in creating effective and enjoyable programming for inner-city youth.
Suffolk Construction
Since Suffolk Construction built Camp Harbor View in an astounding 100 days in 2007, the Suffolk team has continued to play an integral partnership role in shaping the direction and future of the Camp through comprehensive planning, quality construction management, strong leadership and creative problem solving.
As the Suffolk project team continues to work hard to expand and improve on the Camp from a construction standpoint, Suffolk CEO John Fish and members of his executive team have been seamlessly integrated into the brainstorming sessions and decision making processes that will have a direct impact on the Camp and Boston’s inner city kids.
Suffolk executives attend Camp Harbor View planning meetings regularly and have collaborated closely with Jack Connors and the Boys Girls Clubs of Boston on every aspect of the Camp, including its design & layout and youth programs it will offer Boston’s kids.
In 2008, Suffolk worked to install an Olympic-style swimming pool, Performing Arts Center and classrooms to the Camp. John Fish is also co-chairing the Beach Ball event with Boston Mayor Thomas Menino and Jack Connors to raise private funds for the Camp so that more inner city children can attend and participate each year.
The spirit of partnership between Suffolk and Camp Harbor View helped make the vision for this Camp a reality and will continue to make a positive impact on the underprivileged youth of Boston for many years to come.
